Soon will many of us be hopefully able to go on holidays! So we need to get rid of all those disgusting hair. How to do this in a plastic free way, and even zero waste way? The oriental wax is a great answer to this! Completely natural, praised in the cosmetic world for being softer, neater, less painful and longer lasting, it is actually also an easy and economical DIY. Made mainly with sugar, you can keep it a long time (not necessarily in the fridge), and it is easy to remove with water. You will need about 25min to make it.
2 glasses of sugar
1/2 a glass of water
1/2 of lemon juice (= natural antiseptic)
1 tbsp of honey (optional - I don't put any - but it has healing properties. As I rinse my legs afterwards I prefer a moisturizer or an oil)
This is enough to do both of your legs, you will even have wax left. To reuse it later, you can heat it in the micro wave or in a bain-marie.
In a saucepan, pour the sugar and add the water, stirring all together. On a medium heat, make it caramelize gently. When the content start to get coloured, you can do the "drop" test : put a drop of the wax on a cold surface. If it stays together in a little drop, it means your wax is a the right temperature. If not, cook a little longer.
You can then add the lemon juice and the honey, stirring gently.
Your wax is ready!
From there, there are 2 methods:
Either you poor it in a clean container, take a wooden stick, put the wax on the desired surface in the sense of the hair, and remove with fabric stripes (what I prefer personally, I actually reuse the Veet pot I bought years ago)
Or, you decide to go the real oriental way : form a ball of a middle size (between a walnut and a kiwi) when the wax is warm (but not cold) and doesn't adhere to the fingers anymore, and then stretch it directly on the surface to wax to form a stripe of about 10cm, before removing quickly. One ball can be used several times. This technique requires a bit more practice.
Whatever technique, try not to remove the wax upwards but stay parallel to the skin to avoid pain and bruises. Avoid the sun directly after the waxing, or you could get some brown stains.
Go girls, be the sexy face of the green revolution!
Go guys, you can try it too ;O)
